COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAPE, INSULATION, ELECTRICAL (FRICTION)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Federal Specification HH-I-510, which has been canceled.
This description covers cotton impregnated, adhesive, electrical insulation tape intended for protecting and binding in place, insulation applied joints of wires and cables.
Salient characteristics:
The tape shall be 20 mm (3/4 in), 25 mm (1 in), 38 mm (1-1/2 in), and 50 mm (2 in) wide, as specified.
Color – Black
The electrical insulation tape shall be in accordance with ASTM D 69.
When specified, the tape shall pass the ASTM test for discoloration of copper.
The issue of ASTM Standard D 69 in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
ASTM Standard D 69 is available from the American Society for Testing and Materials, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
